DescriptionThe entry concerns the use of herbal and fruits infusions, tea containing or prepared with leaves of Stevia Rebaudiana (Bertoni) Bertoni which are intended to be consumed as such. It also concerns the use of Stevia Rebaudiana leaves in food supplements. The French competent authority (DGAL) in response to a request submitted pursuant to the requirements of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/456 (https://ec.europa.eu/food/safety/novel_food/consultation-process_en) on the procedural steps of the consultation process for determination of novel food status, reached the conclusion that non-concentrated aqueous infusion of Stevia rebaudiana leaves is considered not novel. The aqueous infusion is made with water only and has not been subject to any selective extraction. The use is only limited to: - Tea, herbal and fruits infusions consumed as such; - Non-alcoholic flavoured drinks based on herbal, tea or fruit infusions such as iced teas. This excludes the use of extracts from leaves of Stevia rebaudiana as a sweetener or as a flavouring within the meaning of Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 on food additives or Regulation (EC) No 1334/2008 on flavourings respectively
