DescriptionThe request concerns Saccharomyces cerevisiae protein, dried yeast fermentate produced by Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Iron-enriched S accharomyces cerevisiae. The yeast protein and its components are normally consumed through yeast and yeast extracts present in food, it is obtained by a conventional physical and enzymatic process. According to the conclusion reached by the Irish competent authority (FSAI), in response to the request submitted pursuant to the requirements of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/456 (https://ec.europa.eu/food/safety/novel_food/consultation-process_en) on the procedural steps of the consultation process for determination of novel food status, dried yeast fermentate produced by Saccharomyces cerevisiae is considered as not novel in food. Additionally, according to the conclusion reached by the Czech competent authority, in response to the request submitted pursuant to the requirements of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/456 (https://ec.europa.eu/food/safety/novel_food/consultation-process_en) on the procedural steps of the consultation process for determination of novel food status, iron-enriched S accharomyces cerevisiae is considered as novel in food.
